UCAS Japan is an ongoing study of unruptured cerebral aneurysms in Japan. This study is officially supported by the Japan Neurosurgical Society. UCAS Japan is collecting data from a large number of patients who harbor unruptured cerebral aneurysms. UCAS Japan started in 1999 as a grant-in-aid study entitled "Follow-up study of unruptured cerebral aneurysms found by brain check-up," which was supported by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare of Japan. This funding was for a 3-year period and the preliminary information was collected through questionnaires sent to most of the training programs for neurosurgeons in Japan. Based on this preliminary data, a prospective study, herein called UCAS Japan (Unruptured Cerebral Aneurysm Study in Japan) was started in January, 2001. All patients in participating hospitals who are discovered to have unruptured aneurysms are enrolled after they consent to follow-up.
